ALAMEDA COUNTY WOMEN’S HALL OF FAME

Over thirty years ago, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, the Alameda County Health Care Foundation, and the Alameda County Commission on the Status of Women established a permanent Women's Hall of Fame to honor outstanding local women for their contributions to Alameda County.  Since 1993, every year during the spring time, the County holds a special Women's Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony and Luncheon to honor the women who will be inducted to the Hall of Fame. There are over 280 inductees who currently comprise the Women's Hall of Fame.

The Women's Hall of Fame also supports women, youth and families by making grants to community-based organizations in Alameda County.  Through their Youth Scholarship Program, funded by the Hall of Fame’s Mary V. King/Wilma Chan Scholarship Fund, annual scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors from Alameda County-based high school seniors who exemplify the volunteerism, passion and leadership of former Supervisors King and Chan.

  • Participating in the identification of community grant recipients.

  • Reviewing applications to the Youth Scholarship Program.

  • Serving in a leadership capacity at the annual Alameda County Women’s Hall of Fame spring induction event.

  • Managing ACWHOF funds and the administration of grants.

WILMA CHAN LEGACY FUND

The Wilma Chan Legacy Fund was established by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors and Vision Alameda County (VAC) to honor the late Supervisor Chan’s passion to help children, seniors, immigrants and underserved residents in Alameda County.  Wilma Chan had a distinguished history of service in our State Assembly and County Board of Supervisors, but it was her local impact that has had a lasting change for the health of Alameda County residents.

Vision Alameda County had the privilege of disbursing grants on behalf of the Wilma Chan Legacy Fund.  Its 2022 grantees, that received a total of $150,000, included BANANAS to support its services to unhoused families, and the Alameda County Public Health Department to support its Nutrition Services Program.
